Earlier this year, the company achieved a significant milestone by successfully completing the third stage of the IATF16949. In February, Middleton Manufacturing submitted all the necessary data and information to calculate our carbon emission and in March we have successfully achieved the carbon neutral status.
We didn’t start yesterday…
From nesting, through automation, waste management, solar panels and other environmental initiatives, Middleton Manufacturing started its journey towards carbon neutrality years and years ago. Thanks to all these actions, we are the first ever net-zero automotive-grade supplier in the UK.
What does it mean being ‘carbon neutral’?
Carbon neutrality means having a balance between emitting carbon and absorbing carbon from the atmosphere in carbon sinks. Removing carbon oxide from the atmosphere and then storing it is known as carbon sequestration. In order to achieve net zero emissions, all worldwide greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions will have to be counterbalanced by carbon sequestration.
Companies, processes and products become carbon neutral when they calculate their carbon emissions and compensate for what they have produced via carbon offsetting projects. Offsetting carbon emissions, in addition to avoidance and reduction, is an important step in holistic climate action.
